Feel better and look better with each sip you take.

The last post about breathing started by saying this:

“Humans can only live for a few minutes without air. We can live only days without water. Without food, we can live only for weeks.”

In this post we want to focus in on the second part about water. It’s one of the most important parts of a holistically integrated lifestyle, yet often overlooked by many of us.

Our bodies are mostly made up of water. That’s the same amount space that makes us the Earth; approximately 80%. This fact should serve as a reminder to us that the quality of water on this planet, and in our bodies, is of vital importance.

The quality of the water we drink is important, but let’s look at the quantity first. There may be some confusion about how much to drink daily. The exact amount isn’t as critical as using common sense to drink enough, but not too much. So depending on one’s body type and activities, it’s probably going to be around 8 regular glasses daily.

What kind of water should we drink?

Not all types of water are the same. Some are vital and others are less than ideal. We should try to consume the higher quality ones, like spring water, or filtered. The difference in taste and feeling between fresh spring water from a source and flat municipal tap water is like the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.

Water that comes out of household taps in most cities is really not fit for consumption (although we are grateful to have access to it). Municipal tap water is just so processed, and often has unhealthy chemicals added to it. This type of water is good for many things, but there’s not much vitality in it for human consumption.

Bottled water is a whole spectrum too. The industry is a big one, and offers some good varieties and some bad ones. Plastic is one of the bigger issues in this industry. Water is the universal solvent, and if it’s contained in plastic that emits BPA’s, those chemicals go directly into the water, and then right into us. Because we are what we drink; even more than what we eat.

Water is the lifeblood of the Earth, and it literally becomes our blood after we drink it. We don’t want petrochemicals and xeno-estrogens in our blood. This is a broad subject and there’s a lot of research on it, but we’re going to keep it simple in this post. You can read more info through the links like this.

Filters are a good option for most of us. We can fill up with one at home, and there’s water filling stations at many stores. Generally, the bigger and more expensive ones work better at filtering out undesirable odors and compounds. We recommend investing in one for your home, or making it a part of your routine to fill up some containers while you shop.

Reverse-osmosis machines are a great choice. So are filters that use ultra-violet light. And if you’re ever feeling adventurous, the best water by far is fresh spring water at the source. It’s actually pretty easy to find one and fill up there. A lot of people do this today and have been for generations. You can find a spring near you here.

Another fun way to build a better relationship with water is to soak in it. This practice goes beyond just a bath in your house. It looks like going to a wild hot spring and soaking in those mineral rich geothermal oasis. It could also be immersing in a forest river, or going to a beach and swimming in the ocean.

Our skin is actually the largest organ of our bodies. It can absorb things outside of it transdermally. So when we get into wild waters, their minerals and life force energy imparts us with that wild essence. We will literally take in that water in this way.

5 reasons to drink more high quality water!

  1. Increased energy
  2. Improved focus
  3. Fresher breath
  4. Smoother skin
  5. Better digesting and bowel movements

By being with, and drinking an abundance of high quality water, we hydrate our bodies and nourish our souls. It’s so easy to forget in our fast paced lives, but the consequences are decreased energy and less satisfaction, which have effects on our relationships.

An easy way to incorporate drinking water into your daily routine is to start off each day with one tall glass, grab another one midday, and one more during your evening wind down. Bonus points for you if you make it a habit of carrying a bottle with your throughout your days.

It’s our experience that drinking more high quality water increases energy, focus, and satisfaction. We strongly recommend that you try it out for yourself. And if you already do, that’s great!

And remember: keep making intentional choices with your healthy eating habits too!
